We headed to Pulaski, VA for the 2011 mission trip (June 26 -
July 2, 2011). Pulaski was affected by a tornado on April 8, 2011. There
are people who are not in their homes, or are
living in their homes that are not in good condition. In fact, one
person is living in his home with no roof on it. The people we will
be helping are either underinsured or have no insurance to recover
from the damaging winds from the tornado.
Through the past years we have had many different experiences. We
have assisted and helped make a positive impact on many different
situations of peoples lives and have been a part of different
aspects of helping to rebuild their lives. This is a new one. We
have never experienced a situation where the disaster has happened
this recent, and is so fresh in their world. To the rest of the
group, every job we face is always as important as the one before or
the one after. This one, I believe will have a different impact, on
us. I am looking forward to being part of this group to help
rebuild, or be there for the people of Pulaski.

Each year we use skilled and unskilled teens as well as adults (at least one
adult for every five teens). We are one of many church groups at
the location during that week. Worship and a guest speaker is
planned for each evening. All meals are included once on site.
The summer of 2009 was our second Mission Trip using the
expertise of
PA
Christian Endeavor. In 2008, eighteen adults and children travelled
to Findlay Ohio for a week of flood relief. We thank them for their
ministry and mission. It was an awesome and God-filled experience!!
2009 Mission Trip
June 21-27
We sent 24 youth and adults for our trip
this year!! Dan and Amy Ray once again organized our group again. We
used PA Christian Endeavor as we did last year to organize our
trip to Galley Bridge, WV. If you go to their website (www.cemidatlantic.org/)
and click on the "Life Builders" link, you’ll find
information about this incredible experience. We were one of nine church groups at Gaulley Bridge, WV that week (June
21-27).
Much of the week we spent working at Living Waters
Family Worship Center, assisting in their ministry to create a
church out of an old school. On Wednesday afternoon we took a well
deserved break to go white water rafting! Worship and a guest speaker occurred each evening. On Sunday July 26th at 9am, we heard reports
from our participants about their experience.

Mission Trip Funding
We, the people of Grace Lutheran Church in Macungie,
believe that the experience of a mission trip will enhance and
deepen the faith and spiritual life of a Christian. In order to
encourage as many young people and adults as possible to venture
forth on such a trip, we are committed to making such trips as
affordable as possible.
Therefore, as a congregation we will endeavor to
receive offerings and gifts to help underwrite the costs of
registration and trip expenses for members of the congregation.
In order for participants to share in our commitment,
we ask that each person pay the required $100 deposit to reserve
their place on the trip. Funding for the balance of the costs is
expected to be shared by the congregation and the participant, as
funds are available.
Additional scholarships for first time participants who
have financial need and who are members of the congregation may be
offered as funds are available. Scholarships will not normally be
offered to cover the entire cost of someone who has previously
participated.
