The Star of Bethlehem

The Star

Throughout history man has looked to the sky
for direction and promise. God asked Abraham to look
to the night sky and promised that his ancestors would
number as the stars in the sky. Ancient astronomers
believed that the sky could predict future events, so it is
reasonable to imagine that knowledgeable men would
take notice of a brilliant new star and realize that it was
an announcement of something special - the birth of a
King. The Bible reads: "And lo, the star which they saw
in the East went before them, "till it came and stood over
the place where the young child was." The destination
of a few strange star gazers nearly 2000 years ago is
the place where we begin our Chrismon worship service;
beneath the Star of Bethlehem.
