Grace Lutheran Church Christian Education

The goal of Christian Education at Grace is to provide a multifaceted learning program based on Lutheran doctrine. The educational process begins at birth and so does our program. The Cradle Roll provides mailings to parents about child rearing and inspirational messages for them to use with their infants. Sunday School classes begin for youngsters three years of age and continue through adulthood.

In the summer, Grace provides two opportunities for our youth which involve Bear Creek Camp. Day Camp at Grace in July is run by Bear Creek staff with help from Grace members in the kitchen and as counselor assistants. Grace also provides a portion of the fee for youth to attend Summer Camp at Bear Creek. Additionally a Vacation Bible School runs the first week in August in the evenings.

A youth ministry plans activities throughout the year for a large spirited group of teenagers. Third Graders receive instruction in preparation for their first Communion. On Pentecost, our young people Affirm their Baptism in the Rite of Confirmation following two years of Catechetical instruction. Many of our youth also participate in summer camp at Bear Creek Lutheran Camp and Conference Center near Wilkes Barre which feature worship, fellowship, relaxation, nature crafts, hiking and boating.

Our Sunday School is alive and healthy; offering classes for all ages from September through mid-June. In addition to the regular activities, special events are held throughout the year. In September, our Sunday school year begins the Sunday after Labor Day with a Rally Day Breakfast. The annual Christmas musical is always a time of joy and celebration; the culmination of months of planning and rehearsals. Throughout February, donated teddy bears sit in our pews. They receive lots of love and are then delivered to local nursing homes by our Sunday School students in March.

Adult Sunday School meets for Bible Study and discussion of a wide variety of Biblical subjects and current events. As is the goal for all our Sunday School classes, the adults enjoy a very busy year studying God's word and reflecting upon applying it to everyday life.
